It's a common travel dilemma: your flight arrives into your holiday destination late at night and you're paying for a hotel room you barely use. When it's time to head home, and the flight leaves around 11pm, it's just as tricky. The hotel checkout time is usually midday (some earlier); most hotels are happy to extend a late checkout until 3pm but that still means a lot of hanging around at a restaurant or (heaven forbid) the airport. Try extending until 6pm and you'll be charged 50% of the accommodation room rate for the privilege. That can be pretty costly if you've paid up to $250 a night for your lovely room, and often well outside the budget. SHE is no stranger to airport hotels - in fact SHE thinks it's the perfect option if you're in transit or departing late at night. And here's a cracker: The Green Garden Beach Resort and Spa, located in Tuban, Bali less than 10 minutes drive from Denpasar Airport. SHE recently paid $55 for a room at this hotel, arriving at midday from further up the coast of Bali and departing at 9pm. SHE was travelling with a buddy so that's the princely sum of around $28 each - fantastic value!
This is a great 3 star hotel that could easily compete with many 4+ star options in this area. It's 'old school Bali' and SHE loves it, tucked away at the end of a dead-end street so nice and quiet with minimal passing traffic. The rooms are neat and clean, a good size, with a balcony overlooking the pool (and it's huge given the resort has just 15 rooms). We had a delicious lunch of chicken satays, nasi goreng, and mie goreng washed down with Bintangs. All very reasonably priced with the bill coming in at around $12.
The staff were friendly and helpful, if not a little bemused at our very short stay! We had everything we needed along with strong wifi and no dropout issues (it's pretty rare in Bali). Complimentary transfers to the airport were a welcome bonus.
SHE's heard the owner of the property has plans to completely renovate the resort, adding more rooms and a rooftop pool. SHE would be very sorry to see this hotel change - sentiments echoed by many guests who've stayed, returned often, and shared their comments on travel sites. Until then, SHE'll be back and we'll enjoy it while we can!
