SHE surfs Bali - a girls' trip to remember

Lesson on beach day 3

SHE surfs Bali SHE surfs Bali hosted a wonderful group of friends last week. The four ladies (two travelling from Canada, two from Sydney) met in Bali, joining us for a girls' trip to remember.

SHE looked after all the details for the ladies - their villa accommodation, designing the itinerary to suit their budget and timeframe, and the week's activities. The ladies settled in to a villa in Seminyak for four days. Each morning our favourite surf instructors, Frengki and Putu and their team, arrived to drive us to the beach for surf lessons. Day One we travelled for around 30 minutes to a quiet beach break at Sanur, where the ladies were taken through the basics before paddling out to catch their very first waves. Each of these fabulous women stood up on their boards on the first wave, and never looked back.

Day Two dawned and despite a few sore muscles, we headed to the beach at Kuta.  Frengki and Putu had decided the ladies were up to trying a surf on the famous reef break - Kuta Reef. The waves were small and friendly, the sun was shining, and our group were the only ones in the water. We were blessed! The ladies' confidence grew with each wave they caught, encouraged by our patient surf instructors. We even managed a few party waves! It was a fantastic day.

We fitted in two more surf sessions, both on Kuta Reef, shared stories of our favourite waves (and wipeouts) over lunch and dinner, and managed to include a healthy dose of relaxation and pampering. Life is about balance after all!

Morning yoga stretched us out, and massages by the pool helped ease the sore muscles. There was plenty of time for relaxing and working on the tans, or shopping in the afternoons. We wrapped up our last day in Seminyak with a few cocktails at the wonderful Corner House. (The basil lime daiquiri is highly recommended!)

Saying goodbye to Seminyak we headed to Ubud, to the beautiful Kamandalu Hotel. In a short 2 days we visited the Holy Water Palace, Tirta Empul where we received a blessing from the local priest, and learnt to cook Balinese food with the fabulous Puspa at Paon Cooking School. The ladies were impressed with the shopping in Ubud, and there's no doubt they contributed greatly to the local economy!

These four lovely friends can count a few firsts as a result of this trip: they've learn't to surf, to cook traditional Balinese food, and made genuine connections with local people and the rich culture of this island.  SHE loved every minute hosting these inspiring women in Bali.

And in the words of the lovely Edie from Canada: ..."I think I speak for all of us when I say that the experience was one of a kind. You and the boys made such an impact, our outlook on life will be forever changed for the good. I'm so excited to tell everyone about my experience with you and hope many women heed my advice and see you for their first experience to Bali."
